Monster Day Tours

“I did two tours with Monster (i) a Free Walking Tour of Kampong Glam and (ii) a Guided Street Food Tour for c. €66 via Get Your Guide. Both were good albeit I probably have experienced better tours. Still enjoyable experiences though. The free tour is essntially the original Malay area tour (it means village of the Gelam tree). They also have separate tours of Chinatown and Little India. However they do different tours on different days so this was the main option for me. I would say that Chinatown and Little India would probably have been my preference albeit this wasn't bad. The tour was a bit unique in that it was probably more of a social and cultural tour rather than the "main sites". We learned a bit about Singapore's development from a small fishing village and the original Malays and the British, Chinese and Indian influence. There was also a bit about the govenments 99year apartments, increasing costs, and how the Brits eventually took over from the local sultan and put him in his own area near the impressive "Arabian" style mosque. There was also a section on the rules based society. The main building we saw was the Sultan Mosque and we also were brought to the famous Haji Lane where muslims used to prepare or set off for their pilgrimage. The second tour was a paid food tour. The first proper stop was NG AH SIO for its famous peppery Pork Ribs Soup. Very pleasant and the bones just fall off. Very peppery though. The next stop then was a random place (Eat Bar) to try two types (Black/White) of carrot cake (as they call it). Not a cake really, the black is pad thai esque and the white is like an omelette. Wasn't very popular with the group though I didn't mind the black. We then went on to Shah Alam to try some Indian dishes (Roti Prata, Roti John and Tissue Prata (I think!)). The best was the good old roti prata. We were then taken on a toilet tour through the Fullerton Hotel and after a bit of a tour ended up at the famous hawker centre Lau Pa Sat and Satay Street. We were then given a mix of satays, a salad, rice and a peanut type desert. Some stuff was better than others and some of the food had gone slightly cold by the time we arrived (some of the team order in advance). Still pleasant though. A degree of the history was also given on this tour which was nice, albeit would have probably preferred slighly more food and the food to be a bit hotter!”

The tour was perfectly balanced—highly educational but consistently entertaining. There wasn't a single dull moment. Final Verdict: If you are visiting Singapore, these walking tours are a must. Whether it’s the deep cultural dive of Chinatown or the historical context of the City tour, you’ll walk away with a much deeper appreciation for this place. Pro Tip: Don’t let the rain scare you off—the guides are pros at handling the weather. Wear comfortable shoes and just enjoy the ride!”

“Monster Day Tours Shanghai offered an unique perspective to explore the hidden gems along the Suzhou Creek, Huangpu River and the Yuyuan garden. 3 hours' morning walk was so pleasant and full of interesting stories of old Shanghai as well as China's rise and falls through time. The short stop by Nanjing Road pedestrian street was so thoughtful and offered us an opportunity to try nice local street food and drinks.I was amazed by the mosque on the HSBC building by the Bund. Jane was so knowledgeable and helpful with nice photos. I really enjoyed the soup dumplings in Yuyuan Bazaar. Thanks so much for making my day in Shanghai.”
