What people say
“Petaling Street is a vibrant and lively part of Kuala Lumpur that offers a great mix of culture, food, shopping, and local atmosphere. Walking through the bustling market was an experience in itself, with colourful stalls, and endless opportunities to browse for souvenirs and gifts. The area comes alive in the evening when the lights are on and the market is at its busiest, creating a fun and energetic atmosphere. While many vendors are open to bargaining and some products are similar from stall to stall, the overall experience is about soaking in the sights, sounds, and flavours of Kuala Lumpur. A must-visit for anyone looking to experience the city's famous Chinatown and local street market culture.”
“Location: Petaling Street (Chinatown) Petaling Street Market is one of the most vibrant and lively places to experience the true local flavor of Kuala Lumpur. Located in the heart of Chinatown, this bustling street market is famous for its energetic atmosphere, affordable shopping, and wide variety of street food. 🛍️ Shopping Experience The market is packed with stalls selling clothes, handbags, shoes, souvenirs, watches, sunglasses, and local accessories. Bargaining is part of the experience here, and vendors usually expect it—so don’t hesitate to negotiate for a better price. It’s a great place to buy gifts and budget-friendly items, though quality can vary. 🍜 Food & Street Eats Food lovers will enjoy the many street food stalls and small eateries around Petaling Street. You can find local Malaysian, Chinese, and fusion snacks like noodles, dumplings, fruit juices, and desserts. The aroma of freshly cooked food adds to the charm of the place. Hygiene is generally decent, but it’s best to choose busy stalls with good turnover. 🌆 Atmosphere Petaling Street truly comes alive in the evening. Bright lights, loud bargaining, music, and crowds create an exciting and authentic street-market vibe. It can get crowded, especially on weekends, but that’s part of what makes it special. 👍 Pros Lively local market experience Affordable shopping with bargaining options Wide variety of street food Easily accessible by public transport 👎 Cons Very crowded during peak hours Some items may be replicas or low quality Can feel overwhelming for first-time visitors”
“Haven't been here for a long time! It was not really crowded when we arrived but it is definitely a tourist attraction. Many stores are selling similar products. Bags, shoes, accessories etc. But very few street food. Managed to try my favourite "muah chee" and there was a soy bean milk that had a queue. We also settled our lunch at one of the very old school food stall. Delicious noodles!”
“The architecture here is nice to look at, but this is like any other crowded, outdoor market that sells souvenirs to tourists. This place is fine to buy cheap stuff to bring back home, but there are many things to do in Kuala Lumpur that should be higher on your list than this spot.”
“The area has lots of small shops with different items you want in you everyday life. Be careful of the scammers and the pit pockets in the area always keep a check on you wallets, purse, passports. Most of the shops prices are way high always bargin half the price as they have tagged the price double the usual price. Shops will always try to sell the higher price for tourists, if you know the exact product price then you are safe. If not do a reserch before you buy anything.”
