“I first visited this market more than 30 years ago on my very first trip to Bali, so it was fascinating to return and find that, in many ways, it hasn't changed at all. We arrived early in the morning looking for decorative umbrellas and flags to take home for a friend, and the market was still slowly coming to life. It was relatively quiet, with vendors setting up for the day and fresh produce arriving throughout the different levels of the market. This is a true local market experience and definitely not for the faint-hearted. Between the smells, the heat and the crowds that build throughout the day, it can be quite overwhelming. On the morning we visited, none of the fans appeared to be working and it was already incredibly hot. I actually felt quite unwell at one point, but one of the market guides was wonderful, helping both my driver and I source exactly what we were looking for, finding bottled water and assisting with translations and negotiations. The bargaining process was fun, with plenty of friendly back-and-forth between us and the stall owner. I was fairly determined not to overpay for items I knew I could find elsewhere, although Bali prices have definitely increased over the years and haggling doesn't seem quite as easy as it once was. If you're looking for a genuine local shopping experience, this market has almost everything imaginable spread across multiple levels and is well worth a visit.”

“Visiting Pasar Badung was an unforgettable experience. I was truly surprised to see chickens & fish kept outside of refrigerators in the middle of summer, which honestly felt a bit unsettling. The strong smell of the market was one of the most intense I’ve ever encountered. This place is clearly meant for locals rather than tourists, but it offers a fascinating glimpse into everyday Balinese life. It’s definitely very different from what we’re used to, and worth seeing if you want to experience something authentic.”

“One of the most lively traditional markets in the heart of Denpasar. The building has improved a lot and now feels more organized and comfortable. The market is very complete, with areas for food, daily groceries, souvenirs, and Balinese herbs. There is also a basement parking area, which makes visiting much easier. The market is huge and active from morning until night. You can find vegetables, fish, meat, spices, clothing, household goods, and souvenirs across two large buildings. Every corner feels full of color and local life. The vendors are very friendly and always greet you with warm smiles. In the afternoon and evening, there is a food street with many options, and at the back area you can even find thrifting spots. Parking is spacious for both cars and motorbikes. Highly recommended for shopping, food hunting, and experiencing local Balinese culture”

“Badung Market is one of the main market in Bali . You can buy meat, vegetables and fruits under one roof. It’s fairly kept neat and clean and parking facility is also available.”

“This is a place to visit if you’re looking for a cultural experience. As many of the lower reviews mention, yes there are rats, the smell can be unpleasant, and we did have two ladies follow us around, which made the experience less enjoyable. It’s not a tourist-style market where visitors typically shop directly, and much of the produce is similar throughout. However, if you know what to expect, it’s a great way to see a part of Balinese daily life and how food is handled locally. I recommend eating before you arrive as you may loose your appetite.”
