Cantina Rooftop Restaurant | Ubud

“Cantina Rooftop ended up being one of the more memorable meals we had in Ubud, largely because of the setting. The rooftop looks out over the river and a nearby temple, and the view alone makes it worth the visit. It is the kind of place where you naturally slow down and take in the surroundings between bites. The food largely lived up to the setting. The beef rendang was outstanding. Deep, rich flavor and easily the most tender version we had during our time in Bali. The scallops were delicious, though surprisingly small. More like micro scallops than what I am used to back on the west coast of Canada, where they tend to arrive closer to the size of a golf ball. That said, part of traveling is embracing local expectations, and the flavor and preparation were excellent. The wagyu beef sandwich was another strong dish. Simple, satisfying, and very well executed. What really stood out, though, was the service. We were celebrating our anniversary and the staff made a point of acknowledging it, bringing out a dessert to celebrate. It was an unexpected and thoughtful gesture that made the evening feel even more special. Cantina Rooftop pairs very good food with a setting that is hard to beat in Ubud. The views of the river and temple make the whole experience memorable.”

From the moment you walk in, it feels cool, edgy, and a little hipster — then you head upstairs and suddenly you’re on this stunning rooftop with the best atmosphere. The food is South American with Peruvian influences and honestly… absolutely amazing. But the real star for me was the cocktail. Hands down the best cocktail I’ve ever had. Coconut, basil, and lime, blended into this icy, smoothie-like texture with coconut milk that gave it the perfect natural sweetness. Fresh, creamy, refreshing — I’m still thinking about it. We shared scallops, an incredible chicken liver pâté (or foie gras — either way, divine), a slow-cooked lamb shoulder that reminded me of a rich, comforting tagine, and the picante steak which was melt-in-your-mouth perfection. Every dish was packed with flavour, beautifully balanced, and clearly made with care. Even dessert was unique — an Earl Grey tea-inspired creation that felt elegant, unexpected, and delicious. Amazing food, great cocktails, a cool rooftop atmosphere, and such a good energy overall. Cantina Rooftop is one of those places you leave already planning your next visit. Highly recommend 🤍✨”
