“Can be very overwhelming at first due to the crowds and number of shops, but I still had a great time walking around the Old Quarter Night Market. There are lots of street food options, which I really enjoyed.”
“I am honestly shocked and extremely upset about what happened here. I wanted to buy a pair of pants and the woman working there told me to try them on. I first took a small size, but it was too tight, so I asked for a bigger one. The bigger size turned out to be too loose and there was nothing in between. Because of that, I simply said that I wouldn’t buy them. Suddenly the situation escalated in a way I never expected. The woman literally hit me in the face. I was completely shocked and couldn’t believe what had just happened. This kind of behavior toward a customer is absolutely unacceptable and disturbing. No one should ever be treated this way. I left immediately and I strongly warn others to be very careful. Ai visualisation of her”
“Lots of bargains and items to choose from! Definitely a place to get souvenirs”
“I’ve been living in Hanoi for some time and always take visiting friends to the Night Market as part of the city experience. Unfortunately, I’ve seen a clear decline in shopkeepers attitudes. They are friendly at first, but if you spend more than a couple of minutes looking without buying, they start pressuring you or rudely asking why you’re “wasting time.” It feels like every shop expects you to buy immediately. One incident: a friend once asked the price of a hat. The shopkeeper looked at her, said “Indian,” then turned away and started calling other customers, completely ignoring us as if we didn’t exist. Another time with another group, we entered a bag shop because my friend genuinely wanted to buy a bag. She asked about three options, which seemed to annoy the shopkeeper. The woman made impatient sounds, checked her phone, looked at the time, used dismissive body language, and smirked when we asked for other options. There were no other customers in the shop. After a few minutes she bluntly said, “If you don’t want to buy, get out.” When my friend finally chose one bag and asked for the bill, the shopkeeper angrily commented that we looked at so many bags but bought only one (already priced at 5.5 million vnd). These experiences have happened repeatedly over the last few visits. Hospitality and customer service are basic responsibilities in any selling business. If someone doesn’t have the patience or manners to deal with customers, why be in retail at all? I’ve always praised Vietnam’s hospitality to my friends, so these experiences have been deeply embarrassing. I truly hope attitudes improve, because this is not the Hanoi experience I used to know.”
“Nice place for shopping. You get reasonable prices, beautiful views, street food, fruits, etc. A must-visit.”
