“⭐ 4.5–5 stars | Shangri-La Ramen – Riverside Branch Shangri-La Ramyen now has several branches across Phnom Penh — BKK1, Toul Tum Poung, Chip Mong Mall — and I’ve tried three out of the four so far. After multiple visits, I can say this quite confidently: the Riverside branch is the best of the lot, and the fact that it’s open until late night makes it even more special. From the moment you walk in, there’s a quiet sense of happiness in the air. On my last visit, there was a table of elderly Japanese men and women enjoying hotpot, chatting and laughing. That scene instantly reminded me an interview with Jiro of Jiro Dreams of Sushi fame — when Jiro talks about a chef’s ultimate goal: to leave diners feeling genki. That deep, warm satisfaction, like coming home on a cold winter day and taking a hot shower. This place has that exact feeling. I ordered their Golden Ramen, which is easily one of the most memorable bowls of ramen I’ve had in Phnom Penh — and honestly, better than many bowls I’ve eaten in Japan. The broth is extremely thick, foamy, and unapologetically rich — pure tonkotsu indulgence. What elevates it further is that they serve it with wari soup, allowing you to dilute the broth to your liking. Even after dilution, it remains deeply satisfying, rich, and clean, with no porky aftertaste at all. My girlfriend ordered their fish and chips with tartar sauce, and this was a genuine surprise — it was better than most fish and chips I’ve had elsewhere. Crispy, well-seasoned, and properly done. A must-try. I also had the crab omelette over fried rice, topped with a thick, savoury sauce. Comfort food at its finest — rich, hearty, and extremely satisfying. The only weak point of the meal was the takoyaki. It’s not freshly made (the deep-fried type), and our first serving was slightly overcooked and burnt. To their credit, the staff replaced it immediately when we mentioned it. Still, it’s the one item I wouldn’t recommend — everything else more than makes up for it. One thing worth noting: the kitchen is open. It looks a little old, but it’s clean, organised, and everything is in its place. More importantly, their mission statement — serving good food and making people happy through ramen — genuinely shows. A side note: a few years ago, I met a Japanese gentleman at a gym who later told me he was the founder of Shangri-La Ramen. Young, extremely well-built, disciplined, and clearly passionate. That same intensity and commitment you see in serious training is reflected in the food here. From one branch to now four or five across the city, Shangri-La Ramyun is a real Phnom Penh success story. Verdict: The Riverside branch is my top pick, and the Golden Ramen is currently my favourite ramen in Phnom Penh. This is comfort food with soul — the kind that leaves you feeling warm, satisfied, and genuinely happy. Highly recommended, and we’ll definitely be back.”
“Their services was a 10/10. We ordered tonkatsu and ramen but the tonkatsu turns out to be a little bit hard to bite and chew. will visit again for a better experience as we wanna give the ramen another try since last time were confused and ordered the vegetable ramen.”
“I had Oh-gon ramen. It was delicious. The service was friendly and attentive, and the atmosphere was very pleasant. I enjoyed my time here!”
“Food is great for its price, service is prompt and friendly, located in convenient location.”
“Recommended: Oh-gun Ramen So far the best ramen I tried in Phnom Penh! The broth is very rich and matches my tastebuds. Gyoza is nothing special but also good to try. My friend tried dipping noodle and he was not satisfied and he preferred the ramen. Chicken kaarage is ok but not the best. Space is not so huge but atmosphere is ok. Good for chill dinner with friend.”
