If you run a restaurant, bar, café, clinic or shop in Bangkok — especially as a foreign owner — most local SEO advice you’ll read was written for American strip malls. Bangkok’s search reality is different in ways that decide who gets found. This is the playbook we run for our own four locations here, top of their map packs since 2022, ฿0 spent on ads.

Bangkok searches in two languages — you have to exist in both

Your customers search in Thai (“ร้านกาแฟ อารีย์”) and in English (“specialty coffee Ari”), and Google treats those as different query universes. A profile and website that only exist in English are invisible to half the city; Thai-only, and you miss the expat and tourist wallet. Everything that matters — your Google Business Profile, your site, your reviews — works hardest when it lives in both languages. (Thai reviews from Thai customers are especially heavy signals for Thai queries — encourage them, don’t translate them.)

The map pack decides, not your website ranking

For “near me” and neighborhood searches, Google shows three pins above everything else. Those three capture most calls and direction taps; organic blue links are below the ads, below the map, barely glanced at on a phone. Your website matters — but as fuel for the pin, not as the thing people click. The three levers: right primary category, review velocity, and proximity. We broke the whole mechanism down in the map pack playbook.

Neighborhood beats city

Nobody in Bangkok competes city-wide — you compete inside a soi radius. “Best brunch Bangkok” is a tourist-blog fight you don’t need to win; “brunch Thonglor” or “brunch สุขุมวิท 55” is winnable and closer to money. Structure your profile, site copy, and content around your actual district and the landmarks people navigate by (BTS/MRT stations pull heavy search weight here — “near Phrom Phong” is a real query pattern).

Reviews: steady beats spike

A hundred reviews from a launch month followed by silence reads worse to Google than a review every few days, forever. Build the ask into service: a QR at the counter, a one-line script for staff. That system — not a burst campaign — is how our own locations passed 4,000 reviews. Full system in how to get more Google reviews.

The AI layer is already sending customers here

This is the part most Bangkok agencies haven’t caught up to: people now ask ChatGPT and Google’s AI where to eat and what to book. We measured it on our own shop — 91 sessions referred by chatgpt.com in 28 days, engaging above site average. AI assistants recommend businesses whose information is structured and readable to them; that’s a different job than classic SEO, and it compounds early. Start here: how to get recommended by ChatGPT.

The honest sequence

  1. Google Business Profile — verified, right primary category, pin exactly on the door, photos this month not last year
  2. Reviews — the steady system, in both languages
  3. Site — fast, bilingual, answers the questions people actually ask (price, hours, booking, what you’re known for)
  4. AI readability — structured data so assistants can cite you by name
  5. Then content and everything else

Skip ads until all five are done — paid reach on top of a broken foundation is renting what you could own.
